96-Year-Old Woman Confesses to Murder Committed in 1946

A 96-year-old woman has confessed to the 1946 killing of Felix Gulje. For 65 years, this murder mystery remained unsolved until Atie Ridder-Visser confessed to killing Gulje because she mistakenly believed that he had partnered with the Nazis. During the 1940-1945 Nazi occupation, she was a member of the resistance. Will she be punished for her long-ago crime?

Felix Gulje was the head of a construction company in the Netherlands, and he was being considered for a high political post at the time of his murder. The assassin was never found, and it caused political turmoil in the country. How incredible that it was the now 96-year-old woman named Atie Ridder-Visser. Her story has convinced the mayor of Leiden, Henri Lenferink.

On March 1, 1946, Atie Ridder-Visser simply walked up to Felix Gulje's house telling his wife she needed to give him a letter. When he came to the door, she shot him in the chest, and he later died in an ambulance. Why didn't the wife realize who the murderer was?

The incredibly sad truth of the matter was that Felix Gulje actually provided help and shelter to Jews during WWII, so Ridder-Visser's reason for murdering the man was completely false. She probably lived with the guilt for the last 65 years. Because the 18-year statute of limitations has expired, she will not be tried, but the murder is still strongly condemned. What a tragic situation all the way around.
