lemans

This 1961 Sunbeam Harrington coupe is said to the the real 3000RW licensed car that finished 16th at LeMans in 1961. The story goes that the car was turned into a street car after the race, and then discovered in the by Clive Harrington, son of originator Clifford Harrington. It was then restored in the 90's and has been campaigned a several European events including Goodwood. Find more info here from RM Auctions where it will cross the block at Salon Prive on June 23rd. Special thanks to BaT commenter Pegaz for this tip!

We found the photo below on here on the Autosport Forums, where the person that posted it says it shows the car on its maiden event post restoration in 1999 with Clive Harrington at the wheel.

The car looks much better in the period photos with the auxiliary lights and bumperettes. They would be an easy add. The shot below shows the 34 car chasing an interesting Abarth Spider.

The LeMans grid photo below shows the 34 Harrington along with the hardtop roadster #35 whose registration number is only a few digits off.  What is that car to the right of the Harrington?

The auction mentions that the original engine is included with the sale, though another engine is currently installed. That fact that it is still with the car after all those years of street duty is impressive.
